Yorkshire Terrier Dogs

yorkshire terrier dog The Yorkshire terrier is a toy breed of dog. The Yorkshire terrier's weight should be under 7 lb. Although small, it has the true terrier instincts and is game, vivacious, and extremely intelligent. Smallness and compactness are most important requirement.

Its main feature is the coat, which should be true blue (steel blue) in the body, long and perfectly straight, of silk texture and fine, with a parting down the middle. The fall, or hair on the head, should be long and a rich golden tan in color, and no dark hair should be intermingled with the tan.

To produce a small, sound Yorkshire terrier that is correct in color as well as conformation is a most difficult feat to achieve, especially as all Yorkshire terrier puppies are black when born and the color begins to break or change to shades of blue when they are three to six months old. The body should be short, level on top, with fine bone, legs straight, feet neat and round; the tail is docked to a medium length.
